7 Ways to Promote Acne Scar Healing

Acne scars can be very unsightly especially if they are the result of severe cases of infection and deep scarring. Some of the worst acne scars show proof of tissue damage and broken skin, resulting in an uneven skin surface and spotty skin tone. The appearance of scars may be blamed on elastin and collagen, more specifically, on their improper deposition underneath the skin. Scars are also the result of an inadequate healing process. If healing is not encouraged immediately and properly, more problematic scars may appear. If you have had a bout of acne, one of the very first things you must ensure aside from treatment of the infection is to promote healing. This is the critical stage that determines whether or not the future result of the damage is mild or severe. Here’s how you can ensure that your acne scars heal properly:

1. Touch Less, Heal More

Acne tends to be a chronic disease so it’s important that you understand how it is treated to prevent further aggravation and break outs. When pimples begin to appear, resist the urge to touch, squeeze or prick. Bringing your hands to your face or any part of your body affected by acne will increase your chances of getting an infection, even if your hands are clean. Furthermore, frequently touching the affected area of the skin will irritate the skin, delaying healing. Touch the skin only if you must, when you’re washing your face or applying medication. Most importantly, never, under any circumstances, try to peel the scab over a scar. This will reopen the wound and reintroduce bacteria into the skin. Always keep your hands and fingers away.
2. Use the Proper Medication

There are alternative treatments that may really promote healing of acne scars but many of them are still unproven. Worse, some of them are even the result of quackery and misconceptions. If you have a bad case of acne and want to ensure quick healing of your scars, see a doctor. He will be able to make the proper diagnosis of your condition and then prescribe the right medications for you to use. When using anti-acne drugs and medication, make sure to follow the procedures that your doctor recommended. Check if there is a certain dosage you might be asked to take and if there is a specified length of time involved for the treatment. Acne has a tendency to recur if medications are stopped in the middle of a treatment and if your acne scars have already healed, you might have to contend with new ones.

3. Clean your Wounds
Treat your acne scar as you would any normal wound - with care. Always wash your hands before applying any medications and keep a good regimen of skin cleansing and disinfecting.

4. Supplement It
Try to keep up with your Vitamin C supplements to help hasten the healing process. Vitamin C is known to contribute to tissue regeneration, to protect the skin and fight infection.

5. Change your Lifestyle
If certain things or activities contribute to acne break outs, you might want to stay away from them for a while. Smoking, sunbathing or using certain cosmetics often trigger acne. Try to keep your face clear of any irritating products to allow your skin to heal itself. Use makeup only when you absolutely must. Otherwise, keep your face free and clean. Try to get a good amount of sleep every night. The body heals faster if it is well rested.

6. Learn to Wait
Regardless of what you do to promote healing of acne scars, time is still a factor. Some treatments, for example, take about two to three weeks before any significant improvement is seen. Some treatments may also require prolonged period of time in order to complete. Antibiotics, for example, need to be taken 6 to 12 weeks before you can complete a treatment course.
7. Dealing with Pigmentation

Once your acne scars have healed, you sometimes have to deal with some pigmentation. There are certain medications that can help fade these spots and prevent them from reappearing. Provided that you ensured proper healing of acne scars, hopefully pigmentation is the only problem you’ll have to deal with. How to Clear Acne on Sensitive Skin

How to Clear Acne on Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin reacts easily to ingredients and allergens that may be in detergents, skincare products, or makeup, rough textures, harsh temperatures, and pressure on the skin’s surface. Red, itchy, blotchy, dry, tight, acne prone, flaky, stinging, and burning skin are all symptoms of a sensitive skin reaction. These reactions aggravate and inflame any existing acne pimples and cause further acne breakouts by increasing oil production and clogging pores. To successfully clear acne on sensitive skin and prevent new blemishes, care should be taken to completely avoid skin irritants of any kind.

Instructions

Step 1

Choose gentle products labeled for sensitive skin that contain less irritants than products labeled for normal or oily skin. Skincare products should indicate that they are not scrubs, non-comedogenic, non-acnegenic, dye and fragrance free, and hypoallergenic. Another good ingredient to look for in sensitive skin products is Aloe. Aloe has soothing and healing properties that will help to calm sensitive skin.

Step 2

Wash your face twice a day and no more. It is not good to wash too often. Excessive use of cleansers and water on your face can upset your skin’s PH balance and cause dryness and irritation, especially on extra sensitive skin. Do not use washcloths to wash your sensitive face. The texture of the washcloth will cause redness and irritation. Use your hands to gently apply the cleanser and splash off the cleanser. Make sure you remove all traces of cleanser. To clear acne and prevent more pimples from forming, you want clean skin with no cleanser residue. A good non-drying facial cleanser for sensitive skin is Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin.

Step 3

Moisturize twice daily to repair and calm sensitive skin and to replace moisture lost from cleansing or environmental exposure. Moisturizing will also reduce acne inflammation and change the texture of your skin. A heavier cream will moisturize much better than a light, thin lotion. A good moisturizer for sensitive skin is Olay Moisturizing Cream Sensitive Skin. To save money, choose the cream without spf. This will allow you to use the same jar of cream for both day and night. It is a cream, but it is very light and rubs in completely with no heaviness or stickiness.

Step 4

Never use acne medication with maximum strength acne medication, such as 2% salicylic acid or 10% benzoyl peroxide. These ingredients are too irritating and harsh for sensitive skin, causing redness, dryness, burning, and stinging. A good acne fighting medication is Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment Cream with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. It is just as effective as the 5% or 10% benzoyl peroxide at drying up existing pimples, exfoliating the skin’s surface, and keeping pores from becoming clogged, but without the irritation. Gently apply a thin layer of this twice a day after cleansing and before moisturizing to clear acne.

Step 5

Choose natural skincare products when possible. Natural products have not been altered in any way to contain harsh, allergy causing chemicals or synthetic fragrances. Witch Hazel is a good natural product to use as a skin toner and to remove any makeup left over from cleansing. It treats dry and itchy skin associated with sensitive skin and also dramatically reduces the size of pores, making them less likely to become clogged. Apply Witch Hazel with a cotton ball as often as needed to reduce oil, and leave skin feeling cool, clean, and refreshed.

Hormonal acne

Hormonal acne

acne is not just a teenage problem. Its a lot of women are suprised to still be affected by acne in thier age 20s and 30s, thier 40s, and/or at the times of menopause.

Usually acne begins in the early 20s of age and can affect individuals who were blemish free durign thier teenage years.

Adult acne is not just the same as teenage acne which is usually more severe in the oilier facial areas including the central face.

Hormonal acne ranges in severity.

It may be confined to a few small red papules and pustules on the chin which appear during the premenstrual phase of your menstrual cycle, especially if you are stressed. Others have more severe acne with deeper, tender nodules that can appear at any stage of the menstrual cycle and can result in permanent scars. It can be on your face and neck as well as your trunk and shoulders.

Cause of Hormonal

Thier are three causes of Hormonal Acne:

1. sex hormones
2.chimecal substances
3. hormones

Female hormones, its produce mainly in the ovaries it include oestrogen as well as low levels of testosterone. They cause male-like effects and are known as adrogenic hormones.

Stress

Its a lot of women that work in competitive environments under the stress can overproduce male hormones.

Treatment

For mild hormonal acne, treatment is similar to that of mild teenage acne.
The doctor can prescribe iether a topical that keeps pores open and prevents inflammation.
If you’re still not seeing a response or if the acne is more severe, an oral antibiotic works well. However as this type of acne can be very persistent, hormonal agents can be very effective and a safer option.

Excess weight

Adult men who have excess body weight can be more prone to acne.

Surplus fat can convert the female hormone (oestrogen) into hormones that behave like male hormones (androgens) and promotes acne through various ways including increasing the production and composition of sebum (natural oil that prevents skin from drying out)

Extra sebum mixed with dead skin cells clogs pores. Inflamed or irritated pores contribute to formation of whiteheads or blackheads that turn into pimples.

Herbs for Acne

Posted by: gomia  :  Category: Acne, acne treatment

There are some herbs for acne that are really fun to use, they are like nitrous in the sense that you can only use them for so long before they are ineffective. What I mean is that acne and herbs have a way of destabilizing your body, and your body reacts in a way that promotes heavy cleansing (usually). But then after a while, your body adapts to the dose and goes back to normal. Usually herbs will give you great results for the first 2 weeks and then stop working. Unfortunately, this is how the herbs treat acne.

And finally, Skin & Hair helped a lot and I was able to use it for a longer period of time. I suspect it is because one of the main ingredients inside is MSM and this is actually something that our body needs on a regular basis.

“I’ve been taking Nature’s way Skin & Nails supplement for a while now, the main ingredient is MSM and I really didn’t think it would help that much, but to my surprise, it has A LOT. MSM is responsible or a lot of things happening in your body and this whole formula has helped me tremendously. Also, I’ve been taking it for 4 weeks and the effects don’t die off like other herbal supplements I’ve taken. I suspect it’s because it’s providing me with more than just herbs.“

My recommendation is, if you’re going to try to take herbs for acne, first start by researching them. You’ll hear a ton of people talking about how great they are… but remember that the effect is temporary. The last herb for acne that I haven’t mentioned yet, but is extremely useful is milk thistle. I’ll have an entire post dedicated to it shortly, that’s how good it is.

How to Treat Acne

Posted by: gomia  :  Category: Acne

With so many acne products on the market, it’s easy to be confused about what acne treatments are best. Here we examine what acne products work well and how they do it.

When it comes to treating acne, it is very important to understand what type of acne with which you are dealing. The most common acne problems are blackheads and whiteheads, and both are easily treated with over the counter products found in nearly every drug store. For the more advanced acne conditions, consulting a dermatologist is the best option.

Regardless of what acne treatment you use, it is important to remember that acne will not disappear overnight. Treating acne takes time, and often may become worse before it gets better. What works for one person may not be the most effective solution for another. It’s important to understand your skin and figure out what works best for you.
Common Topical Treatments and Medications for Acne

Products found over the counter are generally mild and work in one of several ways. They dry up excess oil, kill the bacteria that causes acne, or they work to exfoliate the dead, dry skin cells from the face.
Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is a common ingredient in acne treatment products, and is available in strengths ranging from 2.5% -10%, and even higher when prescribed by a doctor. Benzoyl peroxide works in two ways. First, it introduces oxygen into the clogged pores. The bacteria that cause acne cannot survive in an environment that is rich in oxygen, and as a result, it dies away. Additionally, it works to help shed the remaining dead skin cells, lessening the chance they’ll continue to block pores.
Salicylic Acid

Usually found in concentrations of .5% - 10%, salicylic acid is another ingredient that works by aiding in sloughing away dead, dry skin cells. By removing the dead skin cells, the surface of the skin is less likely to be blocked, keeping new blemishes from forming.
